ACT of CT strongly believes that young performers’ theatre training should be broad enough to offer an introduction to different methods, techniques, and theatre disciplines, but also focused significantly on refining individual performance.
ACT’s goal is to offer a variety of programs, masterclasses and performance opportunities for students of all ages, covering a wide range of topics and exposing students to a diverse group of instructors and teaching styles.
A performer is never “done” learning — even Broadway professionals still regularly take masterclasses with new instructors and study with private vocal and acting instructors — and the ACT team hopes that our students are able to take advantage of the wide array of professional teaching artists who we are able to make available.
Although our specific educational offerings each semester and each season are subject to change, our general intended framework is as follows:
ACT offers a multi-week, interdisciplinary, ACT Conservatory: Mainstage Lab Program for middle school and high school students each fall. This program capitalizes on the large staff of professional performers, directors and designers present in Ridgefield for our fall mainstage productions, who offer their instruction in acting, movement, vocal performance and technical/design skills. The program also offers special access to behind-the-scenes aspects of a professional theatre company’s rehearsal and performance process. The end goal is to provide our theatre students with an opportunity to observe and learn from a wide variety of working professionals.
LESSONS WITH COLLEEN
ACT’s spring programming generally includes ACT Conservatory weekly classes with a concentrated and progressive focus on either acting, movement or vocal technique.
Full School-Year Programs
ACT Youth Choir, private vocal instruction, and occasional specialized masterclasses are offered fall and spring.
ACT’s summer camp and summer conservatory programs focus on performance, offering students grades 2 through 12, two- or three-week workshops or camps, culminating in fully-staged mainstage productions.
